Dreaming with Roo a Children's Puppet Theatre Play

'Dreaming with Roo' is a play for children with an accompanying puppet making workshop set within a Native Australian theme.
It features the story, 'Birth of the Butterflies', from the 'Dreaming' creation stories which is acted out by a cast of specially created Australian puppet animal characters; made from organic and found, materials.

The project's Script, Puppets and Puppet Making Workshop have all
been created by Nottingham based Puppetry Practitioner and Animation Scriptwriter
Helena Smee with support from Arts Council England.
The eventual show will be premiered at a to be decided Puppet Festival where it will be presented by a Storyteller Actor and a Puppet Kangaroo called, 'Roo'.
The Script was completed in 2010. The Puppet Making activity began
in Spring 2011 and was completed in Spring 2013.

A wide variety of natural materials were sourced, some simply found in fields and woods, research done and Puppet Making began. The first thing to be created was the Butterfly puppet workshop to be ready for the Buxton Puppet Festival in July 2011.
