From January 1997 we were
up and running demonstrating the Medialab 'Real time digital performance
animation system' at the Medialab
Studio LA that we had set up in Burbank.
Lots of Industry professionals came to see us, Studio Executives,
Directors, Producers, Special effects people, all sorts.
While projects with NBC and Fox Television (see on this page)
got off the ground some very interesting ones didn't, though tantalizingly
many nearly happened.'
Among them were projects with the Walt Disney Company, (including a new 'Winnie the Pooh') and lots
of Disney people from different divisions came to see us until ultimately
Joe Roth Disney Studio's President and Dean Valentine Disney Television
President
turned
up together and here I am demonstrating the system to Dean with Donkey Kong.

Working for Medialab and performing the Real Time Animation system
all over the world was one of the most wonderful performing jobs
we ever had and one of the nicest experiences we ever had too.
We learnt so much, laughed
so much and made some
truly great friends.

A CG solution for today?
Back in 1997, Medialab Studio LA arrived in Hollywood in 3rd rock
from the Sun style like something from another planet! |
|
Some of the work then created,
as the above demonstrates was way ahead of it's time, ground breaking
and truly avante guard.
Introducing and explaining the technology was the bulk of the
work then.
Finding the production commitment to applications for the system
was though a longer haul than perhaps was predicted?
I don't think I'll ever forget the impact France 2's Children's Saturday
morning Show 'Donkey Kong Planet' had on me in 1996. Stood in the Studio
watching an animated character beautifully composited interacting in
real time in a live studio with a fellow actress presenter.
We are now very interested in re-visiting this technology and are working
with a leading developer in Los Angeles to bring a CG RTA Solution to the
UK Media Market..
