Michelle Collins: reading together is 'a bonding and precious experience'

Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin. Celebrity parents, including Sarah Ferguson, former All Saints star Natalie Appleton and TV presenter Eamonn Holmes have signed up to read children's bedtime stories for one of Disney's UK kids channels.

The celebrity book reading will feature in a new Playhouse Disney Channel series, PJ's Storytime, which will be broadcast between 6pm and 8pm from Monday April 26.

PJ's Storytime will feature the celebrities reading illustrated pre-school picture books to Playhouse Disney character PJ Mole.

Ferguson, a children's author in her own right, whose best-known creation is Budgie The Helicopter, will read one of her own books, Little Red.

She will be joined in PJ's Storytime by Appleton, Holmes, actress Michelle Collins and TV presenter Gaby Roslin.

Collins is to read Lettice, the Flying Rabbit, Holmes will tackle Drat that Fat Cat and Roslin will be reading Mr Wolf's Pancakes.

The celebrities will also give short interviews relating their personal experiences of being read to as a child and of reading to their own offspring.

"My daughter, Mia, and I both look forward to that quality time spent together when we share a bedtime story and momentarily escape from the world's madness," said Collins.

"I love seeing her reaction to a new bedtime story and watching her come alive. It is a very bonding and precious experience for both of us," she added.

The new series forms part of Playhouse Disney pre-school kids strand PJ's Bedtime, which features quieter programming, interspersed with programming segments with bedtime themes.

Playhouse Disney is one of four Disney services available in the UK to Sky Digital and digital cable TV subscribers.

The others are Disney Channel, Timeshift Service Disney + 1 and Toon Disney Channel
